What We Really Miss About The 1950's.

I think it is interesting how everyone looks back at Leave It To Beaver, Father Knows Best, and Ozzie and Harriet and thinks that was the way it was in that time. People watching the T.V. programs back when they aired knew that it did not go that way. Yes, the economy was getting better and the job market was rising but situations inside the family were not as good as they were portrait on T.V. I really liked the paragraph on the beer ads. The beer companies are portaiting that if you drink beer X then you will be stronger and sexier. Not so much hu.
I think media has had a lot to do with the way we see how things went back in the 1950s and 1960s. Back then they did not have the large coverage of every little thing that happened. It protected the people from the social ills.
I can see the same thing on a larger scale today. Especially with the reality shows on T.V. Everone is having fun and living in a big expensive house. Thats not how things go.

  1. It is interesting to read other points of view on the same topic. I agree completely with you that media plays a huge role in the way we perceive past and even present time. Media is very powerful, but we need to be careful how much we let it become our only source for information.
